DIRT (FringeNYC '07) RETURNS
***Outstanding Actor Award - FringeNYC 07'***
"See this show!!!" - NYTheatre
"Riveting" - Time Out (4 stars)
"Stunning" - Back Stage (Critic's Pick)
DIRT returns after a critically acclaimed run at FringeNYC 07. Christopher Domig received the FringeNYC 2007 Outstanding Actor Award, while critics raved, calling DIRT "Riveting", "Stunning", and "Powerful".
With the help of the Austrian Cultural Forum DIRT is
returning to the stage for a limited engagement April
2-26 at Under St. Marks.
Dirt is a 75 minute solo play. Sad is its narrator. A
desperately alienated illegal immigrant from Iraq, Sad
lives on the fringes of Western society. He confronts
xenophobia, latent racism, and ethnocentrism as he
peddles roses to eke out an existence. Issues of
identity, anti-foreign sentiment, and self-worth are
brought hauntingly to life through the character's
disturbing psychological self-portrait.
See DIRT before it leaves for the Edinburgh Fringe

NOTES FROM UNDERGROUND (FringeNYC '99) at The Brick!
The Brick Theater, Inc. presents
Notes from Underground
a disgusting play
Descend into the squalid, candlelit dwelling of Dostoevsky's Underground Man. Sit on his broken furniture and battered books. Experience his wretched loneliness. Feel his penetrating anguish. Fear his outbursts of manic rage.
Voices from the auditorium ring out, belittling and degrading the man. Are the voices his? Are they yours? Hear the Underground Man address you, a command audience of his imagination, assembled to ridicule and debase him in an intricate call-and-response ritual he practices nightly. And witness him delight in his own pain.
Notes from Underground is a five-part dramatic oratorio exploring the Underground Man's desperate masochism. This dark, environmental production returns for a limited time after a critically acclaimed run in the 1999 New York International Fringe Festival. |

"At the 1999 Fringe Festival I saw [Robert Honeywell] perform a rather startling solo version of Dostoyevsky's Notes from Underground in almost complete darkness. There was only a small candle that drew all the attention to his face. Even then, the man wanted his spotlight."
Jason Zinoman – The New York Times Review of "Every Play Ever Written", June 27, 2007

MORTAL DECISIONS: A DIARY OF THE DONNER PARTY
(FringeNYC '98) at the Metropolitan Playhouse
METROPOLITAN TELLS THE HIDDEN STORY OF AN AMERICAN SAGA
STU RICHEL REVEALS THE TRUTH BEHIND THE TALES
COURAGE AND COMPASSION IN THE FACE OF FEAR
(February 8 -16)
Metropolitan Playhouse presents Stu Richel in his solo performance: Mortal Decisions: A Diary of the Donner Party, at the theater's home (220 E. 4th Street) February 8th through 16th, 2008.
Stu Richel brings to life one of the most terrifying and infamous tales of the American Frontier. In 1846, thirty-three souls set out from Springfield, MA, in search of a new life out West. Instead, they discovered the limits of human compassion and endurance in the snowbound Sierra Nevadas.
Commonly known as a sensational tale of cannibalism and depravity, the trials of the party are seen in vivid detail through the eyes of a lucky survivor in Mortal Decisions. Mr. Richel's stirring vision casts new light on this harrowing story: a saga of impossible choices and defiant courage.
Called "A true work of sublime genius" by the New York Observer, Mortal Decisions was derived from revisionist histories of the oft-told history. The play debuted in San Jose in 1994, and has since played at the Depot Theatre and the New York International Fringe Festival. |
