<%function title()%> FringeNYC 2007 Press Coverage<%end function%> <%function content()%>

Here at FringeNYC, we're constantly astonished by the press coverage of our festival. After all, one of the primary reasons that we started FringeNYC back in 1997 is that countless off-off Broadway productions were going completely unnoticed in New York City each year.

But this year, we were so grateful to have not only an enormous amount of coverage of our productions, but also some really thoughtful coverage of the festival itself. Of course, none of this would be possible without our tireless publicist, Ron Lasko. Here are a few examples:

Unlike our friends on television's "The West Wing", we've actually WANTED a "process story" for quite some time. We feel like we've earned a reputation as a professionally run "institution"; but only those who read our annual report know how we actually operate. This article by Mark Blankenship went a long way toward dispelling some of the myths regarding not only the "how", but also the "why".

I was a bit concerned when our publicist extraordinaire, Ron Lasko of Spin Cycle, called to say that the New York Times wanted to come film our kick-off party (which is usually a participants only chance to launch the festival and blow off some steam). But the result was a video that seems to capture the energy and spirit of the festival. Special thanks to our participants for dressing for the occasion!

And we would be remiss if we did not mention Time Out New York's extraordinary efforts to cover as many FringeNYC shows as possible. Truly embracing FringeNYC's "theatre for the people" energy, Time Out distributed postcards for the shows to all of their staff. ALL of their staff - administrators, editors, receptionists, writers, interns, and even a temporary assistant credit analyst. Thank you, Time Out New York!

And, of course, as you'll read in other places in this report, nytheatre.com once again completed the Herculean feat of reviewing EVERY SINGLE PRODUCTION in The New York International Fringe Festival. It's an astonishing feat - and we're so grateful for their commitment to ensuring that each show is thoughtfully reviewed.
